Bio

My name is Megan (obviously). I'm eighteen and from the middle of nowhere, which most people like to call Waterloo, IL. I'm a senior in high school at the moment, but this status is due to change on June 11th. (I'm going to pretend that I don't have a countdown going on.) Next fall, I'm going to attend Knox College in Galesburg, IL and double major in creative writing and vocal performance. Till then, though, I'm still a crazy high school student.

Physically speaking, I'm 5'4" with glasses, blue eyes, and brown hair. I have issues with wearing anything other than jeans and a t-shirt, and aforementioned t-shirt must be either school-related or contain witty phrases.

Basically, my livejournal consists of me ranting and rambling about various things in my life: band, chorus, yearbook, speech, evil English teachers...you know, the usual. I suffer from insane mood swings, so I like to spam my friends lists with lots of hyperactive gibberish. Granted, it is well-written, grammatically correct gibberish, but it's gibberish all the same.

I like politics, too. Extemporaneous Speaking (extemp) is one of my speech events (the other is SOS, or special occasion speaking, better known as ADS, or after dinner speaking), so I generally try to keep up on current events. Granted, my way of keeping up with them involves reading The Onion and watching "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", but we can't all check thirty-five news sources from around the world every day. That having been said, I am most definitely a liberal Democrat (and, unlike

xblackthenightx, I don't think that President Bush is a liberal). I haven't decided yet which of the candidates I'm going to support, but I most definitely do not like Howard Dean and his Confederate flag comment (which is fun to refer to in speeches).

keito_san, I've become addicted to video games. My favorite genre is turn-based RPGs, mostly because I lack any sort of hand/eye coordination (which is one of the many reasons why I can never win in Super Smash Bros. Melee). Of these, I like Earthbound, Pokemon (the entire series, even though I STILL haven't beaten Ruby...I get distracted easily), Golden Sun (still haven't beaten the first one...also due to distraction), and Fire Emblem (I'm working on it). I also have copies of Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Oracle of Time, but...yeah. I'm definitely in the middle of five different games. (In addition to RPGs, I have this deep love for SSBM and Mario Kart: Double Dash.)

However, most of my life revolves around music. Right now, it's concert band season, so I am a contra-alto clarinetist (which is as fun as hell, even if I do have to sit on a book to be able to play the thing and transpose godforsaken tuba music). Except, of course, that concert band coincides nicely with pep band, so I am simultaneously a piccoloist. I also play flute and regular old bass clarinet, and I'm an evil first soprano diva (currently working my way through a book of solos in Italian) who is occasionally forced to sing second. I'm an avid music theory student (regardless of the fact that we rarely learn anything in theory III), and I like to pretend that I know what I'm talking about when I discuss theory-related things. Feel free to tell me that I'm really, really wrong.

I enjoy writing and reading, too (I plan on majoring in English in college, then becoming a writer/editor of books). I'll read anything, though I have a marked preference for fantasy. Favorite authors (in no order whatsoever) include JK Rowling, Douglas Adams, David Eddings, Tamora Pierce, JRR Tolkien, Diana Wynne Jones, Patricia Wrede, Philip Pullman, Robert Jordan, Mercedes Lackey (her books are like crack - I know they're bad, but they're so easy to read and so addictive), Anne McCaffrey (ditto the ML comment), Tanya Huff, and Lois McMaster Bujold. Because that's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

Personality-wise, I'm stubborn, bitchy, easily irritated, easily distracted, hyperactive, occasionally depressed, and constantly confused. My journal entries are rather sarcastic and cynical. I also have this tendency to make really bad jokes, which I picked up from

lesser_mook and another one of my friends (well, probably most of my friends -

pyralisha being the exception).
